The Dark Side of the Labryinth, Ep. 1: Jennie Wade of Gettysburg

Welcome to episode 1 of The Dark Side of the Labyrinth, a more haunted
spin off of my Inside the Labyrinth blog and podcast. As some that works
not only in the music and entertainment world, but also the history
world, you can say that I am all about history and mythology! While I
cover much of that in my other blog and podcast, this one will explore
the spookier and more paranormal sides of history. As someone who has
served as a storyteller at a few haunted history events during the
Halloween season, I will say that I am very excited to embark on this.

This first episode was voted on entirely by YOU, from the 1840s dress
I'm wearing to the back drop I use, to the subject matter.
In this episode, I discuss the tragic story of Jennie Wade (Mary
Virginia Wade), whose life was cut short at the age of 20 by a stray
bullet during the battle of Gettysburg as she was kneading dough to bake
bread for the Union soldiers. She is said to be the only civilian
casualty in the bat…

My Thoughts on Love Never Dies (Phantom of the Opera II)

Image
SO. As I have stated a few times at my social media and probably here as well, I am a great fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber and of his work, and among my favorites is Phantom of the Opera.
My love of this musical (and then Lloyd Webber a little later) began when I was about 6 or 7 years old when my uncle introduced me to the Phantom London cast recording starring the great Michael Crawford and one of my queens, Sarah Brightman. Since then, the story and music held great fascination for me and when I was able to go see it on Broadway years later (my first Broadway show!), it was very exciting to behold the story between the Phantom/Erik, Christine Daae, and Vicomte Raoul de Chagny unfolding on the stage. Not to mention the gorgeous sets and costumes!

As someone who was also a theater kid, much of my repertoire over the years, since I started vocal training at the age of 12 - often included music from Webber and Phantom. I have sung the role of Christine in a couple Broadway musical revues,…

Tiffany's Friday Night Livestream: Discussing Dark History Fantasy Stories

Image
In this livestream, I discuss my stories and what influenced me to write the kind of stories I do. I typically write against a historical backdrop and my stories tend to veer toward the Dark Fantasy side with a dash of Romance. I read an excerpt from my novel Descent (The Birthrite, #1) and talk a little of how the new music I'm creating can serve as a backdrop for the books (though they don't have to!).
Check out The Birthrite at my webstore:

Also on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Descent-Birthrite-1-Tiffany-Apan-ebook/dp/B00QWY94NM/
And tune in next week when I discuss my adventures in living history and reenacting and how that serves as an influence to the music and stories. And hey, if I'm feel REALLY ambitious, I might just dress in period clothing for that one...
See you again next week …

Tiffany's Friday Night Livestream: Researching and Arranging Two Traditional Celtic Folk Songs

Image
Welcome to my third livestream! Tonight, I discuss with you two songs I'm working on. Both are traditional folk songs of the Celtic nature and originate from Scotland, Ireland, and England. The songs in question are Health to the Company and John Barleycorn Must Die. I discuss the research I'm doing as I come up with arrangements for the songs along with some of those possible arrangements. I also delve a little into my songwriting (and story writing!) process. :)
And please excuse my phone going off a couple times. Of course people decide to text me when I'm livestreaming. :P
Thank you for joining me and feel free to invite others along for the journey. :)

A Walk around a Tudor Style Mansion (Facebook Livestream)

Image
After my workout today I decided to go live and take you on a little walk around a place I enjoy jogging and hiking at. This historic Tudor stlye mansion built in the 1920s is one of many places that serves as creative inspiration for me. And speaking of creative inspiration, join me tomorrow on Facebook at 7PM as I will be livestreaming and talking about a couple new songs in the works! Hope you're having a great week. :)

Image
Tonight, i went on Facebook live and discussed a little of what I'm up to personally, as well as professionally and musically. I also demonstrate a little on an old world percussion instrument that I play. :)  I also didn't realize that my vacuum cleaner was in the shot until later. Ah well.
