Adventures at Old Fort Niagara

Image
Greetings fellow time traveler,

Each year on the fourth day in July, I have made it a tradition of making the pilgrimage to Old Fort Niagara. This year, I was very much anticipating fighting the English alongside my French comrades of LeBoeuf and Dumas. But alas, due to a plague that has been sweeping the land, that was not meant to be this year. No matter, though. I will have plenty more opportunity to face off with the enemy and overthrow them.

Until then, I give you some adventures from years past at the fort.

I remain, Monsieur/Madame, your most humble and obedient servant.

Friday Night Facebook Livestream: Becoming a Fort Niagara Ghost

Image
Greetings as we kick off the virtual version of Fort Niagara weekend! Under regular circumstances, I would be venturing up there this weekend to play and educate the public on mid 18th century life during the Seven Years War with my French unit. But alas, that cannot be this year. But that doesn't mean that we can't still celebrate that always fun and memorable weekend.
For the third episode of my new series, Dark Side of the Labyrinth, I will be telling of some of the ghost legends that surround Old Fort Niagara and tonight, I was experimenting with a rather ghostly makeup look...

Tiffany's Living Room Sessions featuring Chuck Owston

Image
I was very happy to have Chuck Owston back for a living room session! This particular session was also a Facebook livestream (this is the condensed, edited version!). We did two songs in two different locations. The first one is "Rain and Snow" (the Pentagle version chosen by Chuck) and the second is a personal favorite of mine, "We Will Go Home Across the Mountains (Song of Exile)" from the 2004 King Arthur movie. If you enjoy Celtic music, this might be for you! Hope you enjoy it! :)

First (Facebook) Livestream of the Weekend!

Image
This weekend will have a couple of livestreams as there will be a few
different events taking place on my end of things! This is the first
livestream that I did from the John Neville House as I set up for the
Cherry Bounce Making class tomorrow!
Tomorrow, I will bring you
livestream number 2 from the Cherry Bounce class, and then on Sunday we
have the living room music session with my friend, Chuck Owston. Really
looking forward to the weekend!

I was pretty tired during this livestream, so bear with me if I seem a little all over the place. :)

GRWM: Becoming Snow White...

Image
Last night, I filmed my second episode of The Dark Side of the Labyrinth and as a bonus, I did this GRWM via Facebook Livestream. :) The Dark Side of the Labyrinth is a spin off of my blog and podcast, Inside the Labyrinth and covers the more mystical and haunted side of history. Episode 1 ("Jennie Wade of Gettysburg)" was total audience participation in which everything from the 1840s dress I wore to the subject matter to the backdrop was voted on by YOU! :) In episode 2, I discuss fairytales and their less than sunny origins! As I turn myself into a version of Snow White for the episode, I discuss some of the product I am using, along with more details on what's to come for the Dark Side of the Labyrinth series!
The Dark Side of the Labyrinth first airs on my Patreon. Then a week later, the episodes are available everywhere else (this episode will be available to the general public on Saturday, June 20). Makeup used in this episode include Elf Cosmetics Soap and Glory Besame C…

Tiffany's Friday Night Livestream: 2 History Myths, Inside the Podcast, ...

Image
Thank you for having (and spilling!) tea with me this eve! In tonight's livestream, we had a lot of fun on this one as I discussed two history myths, some topics I will be covering in my forthcoming podcast, and a little music update! Livestreams take place on the Facebook page on Fridays at 7:30PM EST :)

Truly Learning from History, Part 2

Image
As a continuation for this evening's Facebook livestream, I am bringing you a few interviews with some awesome African American living historians and reenactors.

And then finally, there are recorded interviews with ex-slaves that were recorded in the earlier part of the 20th century for the Library of Congress.

Please listen to what they all have to say because as I said in my livestream, the only true way to learn from history is to look beneath the surface and really hear what the voices from the past are saying. And never stop seeking out answers.

Tiffany's Friday Night Livestream: Truly Learning from History

Image
Tonight's Facebook livestream was a change from what I originally planned and a pretty heavy topic, but I thank everyone that tuned in and commented with their thoughts. The book discussed in this livestream was Webb Garrison's "Amazing Women of the Civil War" and I also talked about how to truly learn from the past, how to learn from human history - the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Coming a little later tonight: a special blogpost dedicated to African American living historians and reenactors, and links to interviews with ex-slaves pre-Civil War.
Please, stay safe, stay well, and never stop seeking answers.

Thank you for tuning in! :)

The Dark Side of the Labryinth, Ep. 1: Jennie Wade of Gettysburg

Welcome to episode 1 of The Dark Side of the Labyrinth, a more haunted
spin off of my Inside the Labyrinth blog and podcast. As some that works
not only in the music and entertainment world, but also the history
world, you can say that I am all about history and mythology! While I
cover much of that in my other blog and podcast, this one will explore
the spookier and more paranormal sides of history. As someone who has
served as a storyteller at a few haunted history events during the
Halloween season, I will say that I am very excited to embark on this.

This first episode was voted on entirely by YOU, from the 1840s dress
I'm wearing to the back drop I use, to the subject matter.
In this episode, I discuss the tragic story of Jennie Wade (Mary
Virginia Wade), whose life was cut short at the age of 20 by a stray
bullet during the battle of Gettysburg as she was kneading dough to bake
bread for the Union soldiers. She is said to be the only civilian
casualty in the bat…

Tiffany's Friday Night Livestream: Getting started in Living History and Early Music

Image
For this Friday Night livestream, I discuss how I got started in the living history and reenactment world, along with adding early music to my musical endeavors.
And tune in next week when I discuss living history a little further and might even dress up for that one (and discuss some myths surrounding some of the clothing and cosmetics). To add to it, I might at in a traditional song at the end. :)

My Thoughts on Love Never Dies (Phantom of the Opera II)

Image
SO. As I have stated a few times at my social media and probably here as well, I am a great fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber and of his work, and among my favorites is Phantom of the Opera.
My love of this musical (and then Lloyd Webber a little later) began when I was about 6 or 7 years old when my uncle introduced me to the Phantom London cast recording starring the great Michael Crawford and one of my queens, Sarah Brightman. Since then, the story and music held great fascination for me and when I was able to go see it on Broadway years later (my first Broadway show!), it was very exciting to behold the story between the Phantom/Erik, Christine Daae, and Vicomte Raoul de Chagny unfolding on the stage. Not to mention the gorgeous sets and costumes!

As someone who was also a theater kid, much of my repertoire over the years, since I started vocal training at the age of 12 - often included music from Webber and Phantom. I have sung the role of Christine in a couple Broadway musical revues,…
